It’s Okay To Be Single

with 3 comments

It’s Valentine’s Day and most of us either love it because we have that special someone, or hate it because it’s “Single’s Awareness Day.” Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s OKAY to be single. There’s nothing wrong with being independent and trying to establish your life. Look at it this way, once you’re with someone, you’re looking to be with them “forever.” Being single means that you have endless opportunities to explore your options and try to figure out what exactly you want to do with the rest of your life. Plus, it’s always a blast going out with friends and not worrying about anything else. Sure we all want that special someone, but we shouldn’t dwell on it because when the time’s right we’ll find them.

Now for the actual holiday… why exactly do we have Valentine’s Day? There are a lot of legends, one of which says that St. Valentine was a priest who served in third century Rome. Emperor Claudius II at the time outlawed marriage for young men because he believed single men made better soldiers. St. Valentine ignored the emperor and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret, in which he was later put to death for his actions. While St. Valentine was in jail, he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter, and before his death, wrote her a letter which he signed, “From your Valentine.” Until this day, we still use this expression.

So, why is it celebrated on February 14? Some experts believe that the Christian church might have started celebrating Valentine’s Day in the middle of February as a way to “Christianize” certain celebrations of the pagan Lupercalia festival.

That my friends is my little two cents on Valentine’s Day. Oh and the picture is a random picture I found and thought was cute.
